Flagellates in the rumen
WebRumen protozoa constitute about 50 % of the viable biomass in the rumen and are dependent. Majority are ciliates and few flagellates and are very motile. Unicellular organisms with 20–200 μm size are not attached to feed particles. They engulf bacteria and feed particles and digest carbohydrates, proteins, and fats (Williams and Coleman 1992).
