Our main objectives are either to climb (1) Culardoch (900m), (2) Carn Liath (862m) and (3) a visit to the Slugain “Hidden Howff”, but this area throws up many great walks and although the three ... ACCOMMODATION: Glen Lee bothy (GR: NO 392817) lies just off the Glen Lee track, below the plantation to the west of Cairn of Gamlet. It is not marked on current OS mapping. Webb1 juli 2024 · After paying the £2.50 car park charge, I set off along the road leading to Invercauld House and beyond to the Gleann an t-Slugain. I last walked this track only four weeks previous on a visit to the Secret Howff. As forecast, the weather was good from the outset. I was aware however that the weather was due to deteriorate later in the afternoon. Webb10 jan. 2014 · However, it was dark by the time I jumped on board the bus, and given the fact that the Slugain Howff is both secret and exceptionally well-hidden, I didn’t much fancy my chances of finding it in the dark! A friend had told me the approximate location, but I’d never been there before. I decided to find accomodation in Braemar. WebbIt is also famous in the hillwalking world as being the location of the 'secret howff' - a tiny and well-hidden bothy whose whereabouts has been kept a closely guarded secret - so you'll have to find it for yourself! The path passes the roofless ruins of Slugain lodge before the higher route joins back in from the right. Stage 4
Webb24 sep. 2024 · A bit of heather bashing & I soon reconnected with the Slugain path; hardly a breath of wind but the morning chill seemed to have temporarily put the midge off putting in an appearance. I’d abandoned my original of taking a ‘back-door’ route up Ben Avon from Glen Gairn in favour of continuing up the Slugain.
